When I was eleven years old, my father bet me I couldn’t solve a Rubik’s Cube. Wanting to make it worth my while, I asked him to promise me a horse. He did. I solved that puzzle, knowing full well that I wouldn’t be getting my horse - not anytime soon, anyway. Although our roots were buried in farmland and wide open spaces, at the time we were living a suburban life.Gardens, fields, and pastures were always in my childhood dreams, but the horses and farm life would have to wait.
Thirty years later, my father has made good on his bet. My family has moved to 28 beautiful acres and we are opening our horse boarding and training facility. I smile as I see my own eleven year old daughters with those same horse dreams and I am thankful. Beginning this farming adventure with my family and parents nearby is all the sweeter for my years of longing.
I stood in the middle of our pasture today and turned in a circle, 360 degrees. Surrounded by peace, I thanked the Lord for this good day and I asked that we would be able to share it.
